Third waves

Here comes the third wave of COVID-19 around the world. Luckily, it appears the 3rd wave is relatively non-lethal in countries with high rates of vaccination. Although NZ still hasn’t decided on our vaccination targets.

The role of insurance

If you experienced the Canterbury earthquakes, or another major natural disaster event, you may hate insurance companies as much as I do. However, insurance is a powerful force influencing our actions – what will travel insurance look like in a post-COVID world?

Are you on an e-bike?

How you think about yourself is impacted by what other people are telling you. We don’t look young so people ask if we are riding e-bikes, as we cycle west to east across the central North Island. This can make me feel like I’m not competent, even when my cycling proves otherwise.

Hope & reality

For any sort of normal to reappear in the world, we need the vaccines that have now been developed to be rolled out to achieve herd immunity. For New Zealand, it looks like that won’t happen until 2022 given we don’t yet have vaccines in the country. That’s a long time staying home…

Contrasts

I like contrasts, such as the difference between our isolated property in Gibbston, Central Otago and in Redcliffs village by the sea in Christchurch. I’m going to really miss travelling in COVID times because I love the learning one finds in countries when you don’t speak the language but discover you can communicate across the divides. I will have to change the scale of contrast I’m seeking.
